I am currently reading a book called Navigating Early. This book is about a kid who lost his mother and is at boarding school to become a captain in the navy. He is very scared of the sea and is very shy. The reason that he is in the boarding school for the naval academy is his dad is in the navy so his dad wants him to be like him and he will see him more if he is in the navy with him. The author of this novel is a lady named Clare Vanderpool. She is a very interesting lady and she has many other good books. One of those good book is Moon Over Manifest. This is a very good book. This one received awards like the Newberry Medal in 2011. She was the first women to get a medal in her first 30 years. She was also the first women in Kansas to win a Newberry Medal. She is a very good lady because she is part of the society of children’s book writers and illustrators. She is a very good writer because she knew that she would write when she was only in fifth grade. Her first book was published when she was 45 years of age.

In the book Navigating Early there is a kid named Jack. He is a student at a boarding school where there going into the navy in their later years. This kid, Jack is very unusual. His father is in the navy and his mother passed away not too long ago. He was very shy and nervous at first but is now starting to get out of his comfort zone. He has lots of good traits and he has some bad ones. Some good one are he is very nice. He also is very smart and likes to go in really deep with thinks. Some of the bad thinks though are he gets very sea sick. And this is a problem for jack because he is going to be in the navy, he is very shy and doesn’t like talking much. He also has a bad experience with adults because his father would go off and is mom would have to work a lot. He is a very interesting kid and does a lot of different things. I still think that Jack will learn to be the best in the class room and in the water. He will be the best sailor in the see.

Summer Reading Post Number 2

I am now reading the book called Navigating Early. This book has not surprised me about what has happened. In my last post I said that Jack was going to make friends and get used to all the water. Jack is now made two friends and sit with them at lunch and talk to them all the time in class. He is now feeling like a normal kid even though his mother is dead. One text-to-self connection I can make with Jack is we both get sea sick. My name is also Jack. One text-to-text connection I can make is to Harry Potter. In this story he is a very shy person and has mean parents. He goes off to school somewhere else and makes lots of friends and finally gets out of his comfort zone. One text-to-world connections that I can make with Jack is there are lots of shy kids out in the world today that need to get out there comfort zone. I think that this book inspires kids to go out and have fun with other children. I think this is a very good thing for the world because it helps with the kids that are shy and don’t have lots of friends.

First Summer Reading Blog

I have started reading a new book that is called Navigating Early. This book is about a kid who gets very sea sick and his father is in the Navy. This kid’s name is Jack. He is very unfortunate because his mother died right before his father came home to visit. After his mother died he had to go off to military school for people that were going into the Navy. His father forced him into the group because there is no one to watch him at home. Jack hates the sea. The first time he ever saw it he threw up all over the shore line. He hates is like a cat hates the water. It is very hard for him at this school because he has no one that he knows and he is very sad about his mother. I predict that in the future, Jack will become one the best naval people there is and he will stay strong throughout his journey of being a sailor because he lost his mother. He also will get lots of new friends and will finally be happy with his life. I think that everything will become more positive for Jack.

LOSER

the graduation

In the book Loser, Donald Zinkoff is still becoming older and having all his young characteristics taken away.  In the part that I'm at now, Donald is now graduating elementary school.  He is very exited and cant wait till the graduation.  So at the graduation, Zinkoff is in his hat and gown and is waiting for his name to be called.  He is so nervous for the weirdest reason.  His nervous because he thinks that his parents wont clap for him as he walks.  He notices that all the other kids are getting cheered and he notices the whistles and the claps.  He finally gets to his name and he did not stand.  He completely forgot about him.  The man soon said his name again and then Zinkoff sprained into action and was ready for the walk.  He then notices that his parents don't yell for him and he is sad.  Then out of nowhere he here's "GO DONALD" He was so happy that his little sister was cheering for him.  He was SO happy.  He was as happy as a man winning the lottery.  He felt like he was the most important man in the world and he was getting a big prize for completing Elementary school. 

best friend

In the book Loser, the kid Zinkoff is still becoming interesting and really wondering about himself.  Zinkoff is now in 6th grade.  One day in school Zinkoff has to take a test on the basic thinks about his mental and physical health.  Some of the questions are like Do you like your class?  Do you like your classmates?  Do you play outside a lot?  Zinkoff was zooming through the test until he got to one question.  Who is your best friend?  He is very confused on this question because he looks around the room and says to himself, I don't have a best friend.  He soon finds A kid that could potentially be his friend.  He wrote on the blank that kids name.  After the test was over he went up to that kid and was asking him who he chose for his best friend.  The kid said that he did not have one so he just left the blank blank.  Zinkoff soon said that they could be best friends.  After this day at school Zinkoff was very excited to be new friends with the kid.  he spent lots of time with him and played lots of things with him.  He also went over to his house multiple times.  This friend that Zinkoff had now was just as odd as Zinkoff.  he has his own collection of ear wax that he plans to make a candle out of.  Zinkoff really likes this so he really likes his new best friend. 

three articles

In the three articles that I read,  There were lots of things that I agreed with and there were some thing that I disagreed with.  Some of these things were like the kid these days don't get outside enough.  I agreed with this statement because every where that I go, Somebody has a iPhone or an ipad.  I think that the kids in our generation need to drop the phones and do what they did back in the day.  Like play outside with friends or play a board game.  I think that one day all this technology will go to our heads and we will have to suffer from it.  One thing that I disagreed with was I think that there are still lots of people that dress really nice to go to places.  Maybe not on a plane trip but definitely to a nice dinner and to a wedding.  Me and my family always dress nice when we go to nice restaurants and go to nice parties.

Zinkoff is being interesting

In the story, Loser, Donald Zinkoff, is a very interesting kid.  He is not like other kids where they like to go home and just sit down and watch TV.  This kid loves to be at school and loves to get in trouble and loves to have all the attention.  Zinkoff is very different because his stomach is flipped upside down causing him to puke a lot.  At the point that I'm at in the book right now,  Zinkoff has gotten surgery to fix the flipped stomach issue.  He is now at home wishing that he could go to school.  He even sometimes tries to sneak out of the house to go to school.  This is how much he loves school.  He says that he is very tired of not going to school so he says that he just has to bring the school to him.  He tells himself that he will have a test.  The test is he has to go down into the cellar of the basement.  He is very afraid of the basement cellar.  Everyday he tries to go down the steps a little bit farther before he hits the bottom.

I'm reading the book Loser by Jerry Spinelli.  Donald Zincoff is a very interesting person.  he goes around think that everything is fun and cool.  He likes the rain storms for the sole purpose of the sound and smell of the rain hitting the ground.  He likes his teacher yelling at him because he is getting all the attention.  He also wants to be just like his dad and be a mailman.  He bugs his dad untill he finally says that he can take him to work.  his dad is lieing to him though.  He does this because he would get fired if he would take his son to work.  So what he does is he makes all these fake letters and he says that they will go deliver the mail sunday.  This is a mistake because the mail is sent on tuesday.  So his dad takes him through the whole trip telling him all the adive and little tid bits for becoming a mailman.  I think this is very cool because this is quality bonding time for him and his dad.  Zincoff also loves to play soccer.  He is so energized that he will try to make the ball into any of the goals.  He will try to make it in his own goal.  He is only in the 2nd grade though.

I recently started a new book that is called Loser. This book I think will be good because it talks about a kid who has very good manners, and is very interested in school.  I can relate to this character because I also have good manners and I am interested in school for the most part.  This book will be good for me because it seems that I will understand what the character will go through because he has some of the same qualities as me.  One prediction that I have for this book is I think that he will get made fun of or he will lose interest in school and want to just stay home and play video games all day long.  I think this because he seems like he would get hurt by other people easy.  He also seems like he doesn't care about something for very long.  This book Will be interesting to me because i like to read about people who succeed in life and like to over come there problems without trying to dodge them. 

where the money is( and where it isn't)

In the magazine there is an article called Where the money is(and where it isn't).  This article is about what type of jobs people should get and why they are the best type of job. Money wise.  There is also a chart that is right next to the passage showing you how much each job pays with the level of education you have.  There are two levels of education that are listed on the chart. The first one is top-earning majors.  In this category they are talking about business jobs and also engineering.  They also have things like health and science. The other category that is one there is lowest-earning majors.  this consist of arts and education.  This chart means that you have to work harder to make the bigger bucks.  People can't just slack off in school and  expect to become big in there lifetime.  This also is showing how most companies and jobs pay there employers and makes me hope other people think about what they are going to do with there life. 

Text-to-world

In the novel, I am Number Four, there are lots of things that I could connect to.  One Text-To-Self connection I can make with this book is I share the same Name as the main character in the book.  Me and the main characters names are both John.  One Text-To-Text oconnection I can make is to Harry Potter.  This book relates to Harry Potter because Harry can use magical powers and Jon Smith in my novel can use powers also.  One Text-to-World connection I can connect with is that in the novel the people need to survive and live through that people are trying to kill them every day.  People in real life want to kill other people every day also.   

451 post

In the book Fahrenheit 451 there is a man who lives in the future.  This mans name is Guy Montag and his job is called a fireman.  In this book the fireman start the fires instead of taking them out.  this is a distopian future because the government has taken over the world.  The government makes it so that the people in the society cant think for themselves.  The government doesnt allow people to read anymore.  The firemans jobs are to go around to houses with books and set them on fire.  But the problem is that Montag steals books from the houses he is about to burn.  This is highly illegal in the socviety today.  Montag soon relizes that the society in the book is very wrong.  He learns this from talking to the Head of the Firehouse, Beatty.  Beatty is a man who would put his job infront of everthing.  One night, Montag sat down with Beatty and Beatty told him everthing.  He told him how all the book stoped and how the Government was killing the really smart people in the society.  The Government would tell the family and friends of the person that they got hit by a car or got shot just on the street.  They would never tell them that they were just killing them because they looked and talked smarter the the norm.  Montag is now trying to stop the government and hes trying to find a way to keep steeling the books.  He will continue to get smarter and learn more about the society then and the society in the past. 

i am number four(first post)

I am now starting a new book called I am Number Four.  This novel is about a man who is very strange and not like other people.  He is from a different planet and there is only nine of his kind.  He left his home planet because the mockidorians were trying to take over the planet.  The mockidorians are very strange because they have to kill the rest of the nine people from the home planet in order from one to nine.  The man in this novel has to change his name, move, and stay under the radar for his life so the mockidorians cant find him.  When someone dies from the nine people, the rest of the people get a scar on there leg with the symbol, in there language telling them that one is dead.  In this point in the story the man named Jon smith is number four and three people have been killed before him.  This means that he is next in line to face the mockidorians.  There are many things key to survival in the world at this time.  When the people are together they are very strong.  But when they are together, they are a lot easier to find and to kill in order.  In the book now, the people are eather desiding to stay split and try to stay hidden, or meet up and tey to take down the mockidorians with the rest of the people.
